What does thick hair + color-treated hair + a super dry climate get you? Anyone? The answer: DRY HAIR.

Yep, that’s me. Blonde, and living in Colorado with a thick mane means my locks are pretty much always dry, causing them to look a bit frizzy and pouffy. I’ve noticed the older I get the more I’m willing to invest in taking care of what I’ve got, which means choosing the right day & night creme, eye cream, overall skin care, and of course - hair treatments.

Like most gals, over the years I can say I’ve tried just about everything on the market, and I have to say that Kerastase remains the #1 Top Dog in hair care for me. After an especially brutal highlighting session, my stylist recommended I use the Kerastase Chroma Reflect Masque daily as my conditioner. In a euphoric salon high, I did not let the $58 price tag sway me, and I’m glad I didn’t.

Slather just a dollop of this thick, creamy goodness on your hair and you will notice a remarkable difference. It truly is a masque, and you can feel an almost immediate transfomation when applied. Plus it smells divine. If you’re lucky enough to need a deep conditioning only 1-3 times a week, spend the money and treat yourself. The jar is quite large, and after a month in of daily washes, I’m not even halfway through it, so you don’t need to worry about it running out anytime soon.

My only regret is that I haven’t been pairing it with a rich, yummy Kerastase shampoo…a dilemma I will certainly address when I go in for touch-ups today!

Love,
Tracey

So it’s been pretty much FRIDGID here in Denver, and as first time home-owners, The Hus and I have not yet ceased to experience extreme joy everytime we use our fireplace, beyond the utilitarian fact that it really does warm up the house.

To add to our fireplace euphoria, are Duraflame logs. Denver has strict pollution laws, so fire burning has to go in accordance to the pollution level of the day, and also, we’re not big on chopping wood, so the Duraflame log is like the a modern urban home-owner’s guilt free little secret.

Yes, it’s kind of like cheating not using real wood, but the Duraflame lights in like 5 seconds, and it burns for HOURS!!! No kindling to worry about, no crunching up newspaper, no cussing at the fireplace as soot flies into your living room.

PLUS who knew they were better for the environment than real wood???? According to the product page: a 6lb standard fire log burns cleaner than wood, is made from 100% renewable resources, and burns for 3.5 hours.

You can read more here about how these logs are good for the environment. The Duraflame site is actually kind of cool….they even have screen savers!

Bottom line: go get you some fake logs kids, and light a fire. I’m obsessed! (and if you REALLY want to cheat, they even have “cracking logs”…hilarious)

Kermit will be so happy.

I’ve said it many times before…I’m not a fan of cleaning. However, I do appreciate good cleaning supplies when I find them…especially eco-friendly cleaning supplies that don’t make me feel like my lungs are bleeding after I use them.

Lately, I’ve been more apt to roll up my sleeves with the help of my new obsession, Method’s French Lavender All-Purpose Spray ($4). Method’s products are non-toxic, biodegradeable and “people safe” which means allergy sensitive gals like me won’t have to lie down after cleaning the bathroom due to inhalation of fumes. Plus, Method’s products smell great (I also love their Pink Grapefruit scent!), and I’m always a sucker for anything lavender.

Now, I’m not sayin’ I have a renewed desire to leap out of bed every Saturday and start the chores. BUT, come over sometime, and I bet you’ll agree that The Casa is pretty darn sparkly and smells springy clean.

Love,
Tracey

PS: You gotta get Method’s awesome book, Squeaky Green for some serious eco tips on how to clean up your act!

I was so happy to discover this easy-to-implement eco-friendly tidbit…stop having unsolicited Yellow & White Pages delivered to your home or office! I honestly can’t remember the last time I’ve craked open either, and while I’m always sad to see the end of an era come to pass - I have not, for many years, understood why the Pages are still being printed.

YellowPagesGoesGreen.org is a grassroots organization which contacts your local distributers and asks for your name to be taken off their delivery list. Much like DoNotCall.gov (for getting your phone # off marketing lists) and 1-888-5-OPTOUT (to tell credit card and insurance companies to stop sending you applications) YellowPagesGoesGreen.org is another activist service that protects our rights while also eliminating tons and tons of waste each year.

It takes all of 30 seconds to fill out your info. Hopefully that’s the end of bulky, heavy, papery Yellow Pages for me!

Love,
